Adjustments/Manipulation

EIM_Hurt_Neck_Img_One.jpg

Adjustments (or “spinal manipulation”) refers to the chiropractic doctor’s strategic movement of the vertebrae of the spine. Vertebrae can become misaligned for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • Sleeping in the wrong position or on a bad mattress
  • Growth or physical deformities
  • Repetitive motion (golf or baseball swinging, for example)
  • Poor diet
  • Extended texting or looking at a phone
  • Long hours in a chair
  • Trauma, such as a car accident or falling
  • Emotional stress

The misaligned spine is one of the most common causes of back pain. Let’s face it, when your back hurts, it can be absolutely debilitating where even the simplest activities are difficult if not impossible to perform. The goal of spinal adjustment is to systematically realign the spine to its natural and normal condition.

How does an adjustment work?

At Bay Colony Chiropractic, we use gentle pressure using hands, and sometimes specialized instruments, to move a vertebra back into place. This process promotes a return to normal spinal alignment. Patients describe this as a comforting procedure. The intent of the procedure is to systematically improve muscular and central nervous system functionality. A properly aligned neck and spine is essential to normal muscular and central nervous functionality.

How often do I need an adjustment?

The frequency of chiropractic adjustments varies from person to person. Some need adjustments weekly or monthly, others need it more often. Our caring staff will devise a treatment plan to help you stay adjusted and feeling great.
