Pinched Nerve

Nerves are most vulnerable at places in your body where they travel through narrow spaces but have little soft tissue to protect them. A perfect example is a vertebrae. A “pinched nerve” in the neck or back occurs when a nerve is squeezed or compressed. This can be caused by spinal misalignments, bulging or herniated discs, immobility, or other factors.

The increased pressure on the nerve causes inflammation, pain, and sometimes muscle spasms. The pressure on the nerve must be relieved in order to alleviate the pain. An examination can reveal the cause of the pain, and a spinal adjustment or manipulation can relieve the pain by properly aligning the spine and addressing the cause of the pain.

This isn’t the kind of pain you should learn to live with. If nerve compression lasts a long time, a protective barrier around the nerve may break down and fluid may build up, which may cause:

  • Swelling
  • Extra pressure
  • Scarring
  • Nerve Degeneration

The scarring may interfere with the nerve’s function causing long-term chronic pain and nerve degeneration.
